Our Big News is that
We Were in the News.

On April 5, we were on the cover of the New York Times Travel Section. If you missed it, you can read it here:
While Christopher did not take our trip, he stayed at most of the same inns and paddled the same rivers and visited the same places. Carolyn just returned from the June trip, and Steve and Paul are meeting a trip today. It is not too late for you to experience this trip for yourself. Plan to join us in September and we have just announced a new date for October.

Dear $first_name$;

Greetings and welcome again to BattenKill Canoe.  Thank you for allowing us to visit your online mailbox again, and as always, unsubscribe details are at the bottom of our letter.

We are pleased to present e-canNews, our periodic newsletter announcing special discounts, unique exploratory expeditions, and the latest BattenKill Canoe news.

We have enjoyed seeing many of you on the Batten Kill this season and look forward to seeing more of you throughout the summer and fall. River trips are more than just a journey. A canoe allows us to adapt to the calm rhythm of life as we work with the natural flow of the river, rejuvenating our soul as well as the body. It's sometimes a tangled web that we weave as we move through life. Some of the threads reveal a work-a-day world of commitments, duties and obligations. Other threads are of a quiet fabric of hope and responsibility enriching both our lives and others and the environment.

Our guests continually stimulate and challenge us to learn more and do our professional best. Sharing our passion for the world’s extraordinary people, places and wildlife is what BattenKill is all about.

In a world that seems to have gone mad, Costa Rica shines like a light of sanity. We are proud of our Canoa Costa Rica trip that has been the cornerstone of our international trips. This trip combines comfortable lodgings with lively paddling and excellent birdlife. In recent years we have become more and more enthralled with Costa Rica’s neighbor to the north. Nicaragua, once the black sheep of Central America, is sorely misunderstood in the world. Since disappearing from the headlines in the early 1990s, life in Nicaragua has moved steadily forward.

As many of you know, we are living most of the winter in Solentiname Nicaragua. Solentiname alludes to the art of playing with will and consciousness for creating your dreams. This comes easily in Solentiname where living is much like dreaming in other places. Dreaming is a fine pastime, I am not sure we do enough of it in our regular life. Will and consciousness blend easily with the forces of nature. It is a privilege of NO roads, NO cars, NO motorbikes, just a few phones, almost NO TV; the only means of transportation is by boat, canoe or kayak, a few horses and your own feet. I always think I am going to catch up on my reading, but I often get distracted by the quietness of being ‘here’, just being here in the now of being here

Let us be your hosts as you travel, secure with the knowledge that you are backed by a solid organization where most travelers become friends.

Join us…see you on a river, sometime, somewhere... but make it soon.

Jim Walker and Carolyn Parker,
For the staff at BattenKill: old Jack Quinn, Doug Campbell, and Young Jack McCoy, along with international students, Viktor from the Czech Republic, and Memhet and Levant from Turkey.

Daytrip Canoe & Kayak Rentals on the BattenKill.

We are open for Day Trip Rentals on our home river, the Batten Kill. It is one of the nation's outstanding streams -- just about the perfect all-around river. Famous the world over for trout fishing, it rises in the Green Mountains, flows through some of the most beautiful countryside in southern Vermont, and passes under four covered bridges on its way to the Hudson River.

We run an operation as good as the river. The water on the Batten Kill is lively and crystal-clear. Beginners float easily in the quietwater, while experienced canoeists enjoy other sections of quickwater and play in the eddies. We float past lonesome country lanes, quiet meadows, deep woods and high mountainsides bathed in the sun. This is a small world apart made especially for canoeing. It is intimacy without equal. We won't be surprised if you linger awhile in this special corner of Vermont.

Day trip rentals are offered 7 days a week between 9:00-4:30. Rentals include a canoe or kayak, paddles, pfd, a drybag and shuttle service. Midweek rentals are $35/kayaks and $55/canoe. Weekend and holiday rentals are $45/kayak and $65/canoe.
